Lots of work and fixes in plasma these past days! We put the applets in extragear/plasma back in shape after the API changes. I still have a list of small remaining bugs but all applets are in a working state except maybe FileWatcher. It's a pleasure seeing how people dedicated themselves to work on that. It's team work.
Just a few seconds ago, a new module has been created called kdeplasmoids to replace extragear/plasma for the 4.1 beta 1 release and later. Thanks Dirk for the release work, it's always a lot of work to package the code for a release.
Will (wstephenson) implemented a new very cool feature: you drop a picture from say Dolphin to the desktop and a small menu appears asking you if you want the picture in the Frame applet or as an icon on the desktop. If you choose Frame, the Frame applet will be loaded with your pic in it. Other options will come like put as wallpaper so please don't jump reporting wishes for it, it's just to demonstrate the principle right now! Very cool, thanks Will and Aaron!
I discussed with a guy today on IRC about icons on the desktop and he said he misses this feature. But asking how he uses icons on his 3.5 desktop, he answered he groups them on the desktop: internet-related apps shortcuts in one corner, documents folders shortcuts in another, normal apps in the third corner. Well, using the FolderView applet this is even easier and neater! Ah, also he does not like the look of the folderView! It honors the theme you choose (there are 6 shipped by default) and there will be more on kde-looks.org. So you can change it very easily!
