Edu Day at aKademy!

The programme is finalized for the Edu & School Day at aKademy, you can see it there: http://akademy2007.kde.org/codingmarathon/schoolday.php. As you can see, it's going to be very interesting with talks from Intel about the Classmate PC, 3 talks about getting Free Software in schools (one from a teacher using KDE, one from Skolelinux the Edu oriented Linux distribution and one from mEDUXa the Canary Islands effort to put Linux in their schools). The day will carry on with the amazing GCompris running on OLPC and communicating with TuxDroid, followed by the presentation of Marble (the earth!) and KAlgebra (2D and 3D plot). Marble and KAlgebra are new additions to KDE-Edu for the next coming KDE 4.
I encourage you to spread the word about this day, especially if you live in Scotland and know about teachers or school admins who could be interested. This is totally free, the only thing we ask is that you register for the day if possible.
Free Educational Software in Schools is one of the hottest area at the moment. Some kids (in Europe, in France!) don't have a proper lunch and schools pay thousands Euros a year for software licences? Software that kids use not even once a week? Software than have free equivalent?
Another example of a challenge in France: next year the Baccalauréat (diploma required to join an University) S (sciences, i.e. maths + physics) will integrate an examination about Maths and IT (interactive geometry mainly probably). Will students have to pay for a software to train for this at home? A currently used math software costs a few thousands euros the school + 80 euros per student to be used at school.
So, in order to provide equal access for all to the same IT ressources, Free Software has to be used!
