On Tuesday 3rd July there was a whole day focused on Free Educational Software, which outlines the special interest the KDE project shows for that area. You can read the Dot article to find out more, it's very complete, thanks to Wendy who did a tremendous job taking notes and thanks to Danny.
KDE is a desktop well suited for schools. The kiosk framework allows deep customization and the integrated applications offer a large range of interesting software. The KDE-Edu applications of course are one of their kind and along with GCompris offer good tools for teachers and parents.
The 3 words that remained were:
- translations: having good translations is of paramount importance and the only thing I found lacking at aKademy was having a talk from a translator. Translators do quietly a lot of difficult and tedious work and it's even more difficult for KDE-Edu as they have to translate data (geographical, astronomical, chemical,...) I'd like to thank them all for their dedication and I enjoyed meeting some of them (Jure, Giovanni, Mickael,...)
- kiosk framework: make more applications kiosk aware!
- KOffice: OOorg is big and kids, students or even adults don't need so many features. Furthermore if KOffice could have a kid look as was already discussed last year, that would be a killer.

We also had an Edu BoF where was decided to call the KDE-Edu project: the KDE Education Project as "Edutainment" seems not trendy anymore and was mainly an English word. Summary of the BoF meeting can be found here: http://edu.kde.org/events/akademy2007/EduBoF.pdf
